The Magic of Public Art at Seattle Center

Project Overview:

Seattle is known for its vibrant arts scene, and the recent ‘GuideStar’ event at Seattle Center, hosted by Wa Na Wari, was a stunning example of creativity and innovation. The installation was inspired by astronomical guide stars—laser systems used in observatories. Vibrant beams in primary colors lit up the sky above the Space Needle. The immersive experience was enhanced by a backdrop of slow-moving, ambient music that enveloped the area in a dreamlike atmosphere.

As an event photographer in Seattle, I thrive on capturing moments that blend artistry and technology, and ‘GuideStar’ presented a unique challenge. The combination of low light, dazzling laser displays, and a light drizzle created a technically demanding yet rewarding environment for photography. I used a tripod to stabilize long exposures and ensure that every beam of light was sharply defined against the darkened sky. Despite the unpredictable weather, the event’s energy and beauty shone through in every frame I captured.
