Choosing a Jacket- Based on Your Industry and Your Style

The most common question that comes up when someone books a session to update their portrait session is “what should I wear?”
In this post I’ll address one element of business attire and show some visual examples of what type of jacket to wear for your business headshot.

The answer really depends on you, your industry, and your personal style. The most important thing is to be authentic in your choices.  How do leaders, influencers, and most importantly *you* show up for important meeting or presentations in your field. What do you feel most comfortable wearing, what matches your personality and your style?

For some women, a business jacket is a natural and comfortable choice.  Choose colors that flatter your skin tone, hair and eye coloring and cuts that flatter your figure. Take the time to sort through your closet or shop for something that fits well and feels good when you wear it. If your jacket is too tight or too baggy, you’ll look and feel uncomfortable.

Alternatives to Suit Jackets

If you are one of those people who never, ever wears a suit jacket …. then *don’t wear one* just because you’re getting a professional headshot. If you don’t like wearing a jacket, it will be very obvious in your facial expression and body language.  I’ve had a few clients bring a suit jacket to their session and it’s so obvious it’s not their style.  As soon as they removed the jacket, their body language, expression and whole being shifted. Staying authentic to your personal style is the key to looking and feeling your best, there are so many alternatives to express your personal brand and be glorious in how you present your professional image.
