From Flappers to Fundraising: Photographing a Speakeasy Gala in Seattle

I recently photographed the Boys & Girls Club of King County’s annual fundraiser, “Club 206,” a speakeasy-themed gala inspired by jazz-era glamour. Guests fully embraced the 1920s aesthetic—women arrived in sparkling flapper dresses adorned with feathers and pearls, while the men looked equally dapper in pin-striped suits and tailored waistcoats.
Capturing Energy and Emotion Through Seattle Event Photography
The evening began with a lively cocktail hour as guests mingled and explored the silent auction offerings. From there, everyone moved into the ballroom for dinner and the live auction. With 14 unique auction packages and high-energy bidding throughout the room, the excitement was palpable. By the end of the night, the organization raised over $900,000 in support of youth programs across King County a powerful testament to community generosity and engagement.
As a Seattle event photographer, my focus throughout the night was on capturing movement, emotion, and meaningful interactions—along with the details that brought the speakeasy theme to life. Live auctions move quickly, and I’m constantly scanning the room to anticipate bidding wars, candid reactions, and the celebratory moments when winning bids are announced.
